For example, if your project is going to be printed by a commercial printer, you probably don’t want to have it cropped or scaled to a smaller size, which would shrink the image in print. This could reduce the size of the graphic by as much as 50 percent.

If you’re starting your project from scratch, these values will help you shape and size your canvas to suit your project.

5. **Set the foreground color for the tool box and canvas color.**

Click **Default** to set the foreground color to the default and the color for the canvas to the default in a new document.

As shown in Figure 2-6, you can choose foreground colors by clicking the Color box, which is near the top left of the dialog box. If you click the Color box, you can choose colors from the Palette. After choosing the color, click **OK** to set the color.

If you’re creating a project for the Web, the setting for the canvas color is important, but for most of the projects in this book, you’re working with a standard monitor.
