The SyslogSend project is a simple command line utility that enables you to send a syslog message to the desired server. It is important to know that the tool should not be used to send custom logs to syslog-ng, which is a powerful syslog daemon.

SyslogSend does not require any other daemon, like SNMP, Syslog, or SNMPD. It is capable of handling syslog messages written by many popular syslog daemons, like: syslog-ng, syslog-sink, syslog-server, rsyslog, snmptrap, syslog-tls, syslog-kit, and syslog-aws. However, it is a poor choice if you need to support syslog messages that are written by some custom code.
SyslogSend is a free, open-source command line utility. There are not any other dependencies than standard ones found in Linux. There is no web interface to use with this tool, so you must always get in touch with the command line. The supported message types are:

* LOG-DEST — messages are sent to server destination (this is default).
* LOG-AUTH — messages are sent to server authentication log file.
* LOG-AUTH-ONLY — messages are sent to server authentication log file only. This is achieved by stopping sending the message to the destination.
* LOG-INF — messages are sent to server information log file.
* LOG-ERR — messages are sent to server error log file.
* LOG-WARNING — messages are sent to server warning log file.
* LOG-DEBUG — messages are sent to server debug log file.
* LOG-UNKNOWN — messages are sent to server information log file, and the error log is disabled for unknown categories. If no destination is provided, messages are sent to system logfile.

All operations are in atomic. In fact, there is no memory-level event that would trigger the message sending. However, if there is no configured destination, the messages will be sent to the system log file, just as if the log level was set to INFO.
