The Hesperocyoninae is a subfamily of fossil mammals, a living and extinct group of carnivorous mammals. The name Hesperocyoninae has been coined based on the first genus of this subfamily, Hesperocyon, from the Late Eocene of South Dakota, USA. Hesperocyoninae was historically considered a member of the Canidae, within the order Carnivora. However, after the discovery of a horned dog (Cynarctus) from the Eocene of the Netherlands, it became clear that it did not resemble any living canid.
