Photoshop Elements: All the features of Photoshop are present in Photoshop Elements. The biggest drawback to the free program is that it can’t handle large files and lacks robust tools like layer masks and layers.
Adobe Photoshop Express: This app, which is free, can handle 16MB files for sharing and small ones for easy editing.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom: This program is designed to be an affordable replacement for more expensive editing programs like Adobe Lightroom.
Apple’s iPhoto: iPhoto is a full-featured photo editing program and the current leader in the field. (The new version, available as an update, is called Photos for iOS.)
Photoshop has many important built-in capabilities, but you can also edit an image by importing one into a program like iPhoto, Lightroom, or Elements, or by using online services like Blur Gallery and Google+.
Photos in this book have been created using all of these programs, and I show you how to edit them in Photoshop and Elements in the following sections.
Remember that any of these programs can be used at any skill level, and the instructions throughout this book give you all the tools and techniques you need to make the best of each.
The programs and services discussed in this book give you the flexibility to work quickly and easily on a variety of tasks. Lightroom and Photoshop are the tools I use most often. However, these are just two of a great number of tools out there. A quick scan of bookshelves or a quick Internet search will yield dozens of books on using the more specialized tools available.
The features, tools, and terminology that are important to you will depend on your particular needs as a photographer. Some programs are designed to help you with specific kinds of problems, like converting color, retouching portraits, or removing unwanted areas from an image. Some programs are better at optimizing certain aspects of the file like speeding up the overall process of editing.
No matter what you need or what you do, you’re better off knowing where to find the help you need instead of being forced to create that help yourself.
The programs that I discuss are listed here; the discussion that follows concerns features and terminology important to photographers, and the topics in the upcoming sections are organized accordingly.
In this chapter, you find a quick overview of editing with the programs I use most often. I cover the basics of how to open and work with a file and start your
Photoshop is the industry standard for professional image editing. It’s the standard software on Mac, PC and Linux. With it, you can edit photos and retouch them, create brochures, fliers, logos and posters. It’s the most complex software for editing images and is fairly powerful, but it can also be intimidating.
With Photoshop Elements, anyone can edit photos, create high-quality images, and make them look their best. Photoshop Elements is a graphically-based program. Its user interface is easy to understand and follow, you can easily zoom in and out, and you can work with a variety of tools.
Although Elements can do more than Photoshop, it was made to be easy. You can quickly click and edit photos, edit photos with color tools, or create a high-quality image with an artistic twist.
This tutorial will teach you how to edit and enhance the quality of your photos. You’ll learn how to resize photos, crop pictures, and get a new, different look for your photos.
We’ll go over all the basic tools in Elements, then show you how to crop, change the color, change the contrast, improve the image quality, create new images, and more.
Adobe Photoshop Elements comes with a fully-featured program called the Photoshop Express cloud service. We will not be using that, but you can check it out here if you like. You’ll also find all the tools I mention are available on the internet for free.

How does the weight of a key affect its strength?
With respect to key strength, which I suppose to be the ability of a key to be activated rapidly, how does a key with more weight affect it?
The key strength is the effort required to trigger the lock mechanism. The most important influence on the key’s strength is the material of which the key is made. The most common materials are steel, brass or plastic. To ensure safe and reliable operation, the key’s strength must not exceed the strength of the lock mechanism.
A common key strength rating is 1 ton. Tons are weights of 1000 kg that are used to measure the weight of a large vehicle. A ton is a commonly used unit for key strength, but other measures are used as well, such as the unit g/m2 (gravitational force / area of the key contact surface).
Block of text to be in one direction and centered
I have a long block of text that will need to be aligned in a more or less left to right manner, but it will also need to be centered across the width of the content div. I tried aligning the text with text-align:center; and then setting the left and right padding to zero, and this works fine, except that the right padding puts a small space between the edge of the content div and the text.
I tried working around this by setting the right padding to one the size of the div, but then the text wraps onto a second line (unwanted).
Can anyone tell me how I can achieve both text centering and an unbroken block of text?
A possible solution is to use a container with display:table, set its width to auto and make the children display:table-cell:
Block of text that should be on one line and centered.

I remember when I first saw Couperus Stralings, and the idea of the oorlog, the civil war, made my head spin. How was it possible? Such a noble cause, fought so valiantly, yet a downfall so farcical. In my dimly remembered young mind there was no way it could happen.
Which is quite normal for a 12 year old boy. I’m sure that most 12 year old boys are stricken with thoughts of the civil war and would respond in a similar way to what I did.
I have since re-read most of his books, and I still find it unbelievable. This series of books has set a standard for literary fiction that a vast number of authors are struggling to match.
In this post, I want to look at a special topic that is always broached in his novels, and one that is a favorite of mine. We will look at the seeming impossibilities that do in fact occur in his books.
In the vast majority of the novels, the fighting takes place in a civil war environment, and each side is shown in the negative light, so to speak. There are a few incidences of heroism, though, that don’t seem to be that easy to explain away.
The faerie army is the special case where there is almost no fighting, they just attack, they don’t have to fight for their goals. They also don’t seem to be inhuman, in that they appear to take prisoners, they appear to have a sense of respect for life and for those who fight them.
The all-powerful Druids have a limited autonomy, yet are stronger than many of the other types of people, they are the forces that give Mierens a chance to grow, they are the ones who might have stopped the oorlog from ever happening.
The other odd hero is Veren, the major’s best friend, who is a nobleman, but he certainly isn’t our kind of noble, he is a spineless noble that lets his sister marry a murderer. Yet, he defends the prisoners when they don’t deserve to be attacked. It’s almost as if the novel is playing on the fact that such villains are always in a position of authority, and all the good people are on the bottom rung.
In the end, all three of these characters are treated with a certain respect, yet we
